Phone Bidding
We gladly accept phone bids for lots in our catalogued auctions. There are many advantages to phone bidding. By phone bidding you can be a part of the live auction even if you cannot physically attend. Phone bidding allows you to make decisions in the moment based on the bidding within the auction house. Many of our out-of-town buyers rely on phone bidding as an essential way to bid for important high end items.
Occasionally we will have items with a great demand for bids, especially phone bids. As we are a relatively small auction house and have a limited number of staff and phones available, we do not have the capacity to accommodate unlimited bids on one particular item.
To ensure the success of your phone bid we ask you to set your phone bid up with the auction house at least 48hrs ahead of time, and we will be assigning phone bids on a first come first serve basis. We accept phone bids until 12 noon the day before the sale, and if we have reached our limit on any particular item you are always welcome to leave an absentee bid. When we make a record of your phone bid we encourage providing two phone numbers, the second as a back-up in case of a busy signal, poor connection, etc. You may not bid by calling the auction house, we will call you a few lots before your item comes up.
We also ask phone bidders to leave a “maximum absentee/disaster bid” in case there are any problems contacting you on the day of the auction. We would only use this bid in the worst case scenario if we could not get a hold of you. This ultimately protects your bid from any technical glitches that could arise on the day of sale.
Occasionally Harlowe-Powell hosts on-site auctions out in remote areas of Virginia. Many times there is no cell phone reception available and we cannot set up a phone bid system, therefore we ask your patience and understanding as you set up an Online Phone bid instead.
